Son-of-the-Sea.jpg
This LO is really pretty straight forward. The ship image is on Ann’s wonderful overlay used as a mask and at the bottom is one of the kit papers blended with a vector mask and gradients. Added the photo, elements and journaling to finish it up.
Alexander Duncan Vaughn
12 Jan 1839 Ohio, USA
22 Sep 1906 Sycamore, Ozark, Missouri, USA

Alexander was my 3X great grandfather. On 20 Mar 1868 he married Susannah Peck in Dearborn County, Indiana and together they had 5 children. Their daughter Ada Estelle was my 2X great grandmother. His surname is often spelled Vaughan, too.

Alex may or may not have known that he came from sturdy sea-faring folks. I doubt he knew he had a distant cousin or grand uncle that was a pirate. Well, Daniel Vaughan was actually a privateer, but that’s just a legal name for a pirate commissioned by the government. He was active around the time of King George’s War 1739-1748, then he drops from the privateering record. By all accounts, he lived a long, happy life, married, and had many children - just like Alex.

Most of the Vaughans in Rhode Island and elsewhere in New England were involved in trading or owned transport ships. They were all sons and daughters of the sea.
