Predators like the wolf spider hunt flies and other insects that feed on the bacteria and algae of thermal mats. In the winter the warmer ground temperatures melt the snow, making it easier for large mammals like bison and elk to forage for grasses and other vegetation.

We explored the nearby Geyser Hill area, met Trish and her friends for lunch, and visited the Black Sands Geyser Basin. I had passed out and suffered a mild concussion overnight, so it was mostly a rest day.
