Seek Balance

Seaport Village is a wonderful seaside area that has shops, restaurants, a wonderful park, hotels, and along the water there are entertainers, one of which are these balanced rock columns. There rocks are balanced oh so carefully on a daily basis. There can be as many as four or five tall columns of rocks placed along the shoreline. I love to watch as they are built with such patience, concentration, and determination.

This was inspired by this weeks AnnaLift https://ozone.oscraps.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32005 with inspiration pages by both zlemon and veer. Thank-you for the wonderful inspiration. Great choices Donna!

Process notes: This began very simply, but got more complex as I began playing around with textures. I began with a solid cardstock, and added an AtsryTransfer from AT Autumn Rust. I added the simple frame, and attached the photo, allowing the top of the balanced rocks to extend beyond the top of the frame. I duplicated the photo, and placed it above the frame layer, and then using the inverted masking technique. Added the portion of the rock that extends through the top of the frame. I then added various stains from AP Joyful, changing their color to a soft rust. I used Illustrator to create the title, because it allowed me to use alternate letters not available in photoshop, and copied and pasted the title in as a smart object, running it along the left side of the frame, allowing it to extend a bit over the frame and into the image. At this point, I knew I wanted to add some diagonal texture and remembered a paper from AP Summers End. When I looked through the papers in that kit, I decided I had to use the neutral, mottled, cardstock from summers end instead, and took the dark green paper (also from APP summer End), and desaturated it, and then used levels to create more contrast. I then placed it over the background paper, and placed it on blend mode color burn. I used the inverted masking technique to add some of the texture from this paper below the photo, along the left side, and diagonally upward to the left side of the paper. I then decided to place a thin strip of dark brown to the left, and placed urban threadz along the paper line, and also on the lower right edge of the frame. There was a faint, almost vertical crease on the background that I wanted to exaggerate, so I took some a gold paint transfer from APP Summers End, and added it along to top portion of the crease, placing it on blend mode multiply, and reduced its opacity to about 55 percent. I finished up the page by adding faint dots from AP Mini Palette 4You, along the bottom edge of the layout.

Thanks for looking
love those balanced rocks--much of your page echos these beauties. the stitches are a super addition.

love the photo, extraction, title/font, great lift! and I am glad to see a more traditional use of threadz since that was all I know how to do ;-)

Sometimes things just take on a life of their own, as happened here--the beautiful texture is well worth every step. The thin brown border strip gives a great balance to the whole layout, too. Love it!

I wonder how those stones can be so well balanced!!! Fabulous photo and page! Love the thin border and the way you enhanced it with the stitching, love the fabulous title, the texture and the careful way you described the process! Thank you!
