Sandals Emerald Bay, Great Exuma Bahamas

Here's one of my panoramic shots for the July Camera Corner Challenge (this is a total of 13 photos in portrait mode merged using Photoshop CS6) and then to fill in the details, it also uses Content Aware Fill - another awesome feature of both CS5 and CS6 (but even more refined in the newest release from Adobe).

The key to a successful panoramic shot (although not absolutely essential) is to use a tripod if you want tack sharp images, and most importantly, to shoot with at least 40-50% overlap between each image used for the pano. Why is this important? It reduces the amount of "bowing" or distortion that you will have in the final image after it is rendered by whatever host application you use to post-process and merge the images. I have found in my travels that also shooting the panos in portrait mode, rather than landscape, also produces better overall images especially when you are using a significant number - like in this case...13 images ! When shooting panoramic images, it is also wise to set your camera in manual mode so that you maintain the same shutter speed which can vary exposure extensively that only can then be corrected in post-processing. Before I merge all the images in the panoramic shot, I always process them to remove any vignetting, otherwise you can detect subtle changes in things like the sky where the images are "stitched" together - this is the result of both vignetting and different exposures between images. Anyone who is interested in more info about panoramic shots, don't be shy and drop me a note in the gallery :)

This is the main pool at Emerald Bay (one of three) and the pano gives you a great view of the Butler Suites reserved for guests who have that service. The other shots are two I always capture when we are someplace warm and on the beach. The masked photo is a shot as we are descending into Great Exuma shot from the plane, the other is one I always shoot, my favourite sandals (no pun intended) on the beach with the "local refreshment" waiting for me to quench my thirst :)

Glorious! While I love the color in all the photos, I think I like the beer can photo the best ;-) I am still having trouble with the photo merging, I think perhaps I just don't have the right pics...this merge looks wonderful!
