NEW ArtPlay Palette Rainbow coming to the store tomorrow!
This is one of my carousel/merry go round photos from the top section (rounding board or cresting) of the carousel at the Colorado Springs Zoo. This portrait reminds me of an Arabian Knight and the following bit of research tied the art to the history:
The modern carousel emerged from early jousting traditions in Europe and the Middle East. Knights would gallop in a circle while tossing balls from one to another; an activity that required great skill and horsemanship. This game was introduced to Europe at the time of the Crusades from earlier Byzantine and Arab traditions. The word carousel originated from the Italian garosello and Spanish carosella ("little battle used by crusaders to describe a combat preparation exercise and game played by Turkish and Arabian horsemen in the 12th century).

Process: Placed Rainbow Transfer 3 on background paper. Clipped my photo to Melange Fotoblendz mask; merged layers; placed on layout over Rainbow Transfer 3; made multiple copies and played with blending modes and sizes; rotated one horizontally. Clipped GoldPaint 2_4 to Rainbow Brush 10; made multiple copies to achieve the desired richness and depth; then positions some of the copies over and some under the largest, central image. Recolored Stained Edge Overlay. Finished with ArtStroke, Textures, three dimensional elements, and title.
