Rocamadour la cite sacre

The sacred city is clinging to the cliff in a stack of houses and chapels. From the castle which crowns this audacious construction is drawn a peak of some 150 meters at the bottom of which winds the stream of Alzou. On the way to Santiago de Compostela, the Saint-Sauveur Basilica and the crypt Saint Amadour, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are available to visitors once the 216 steps of the pilgrims' staircase have been climbed . The miraculous chapel, one of the seven other chapels built in the hollow of the rock, houses its jewel, the Black Virgin revered for more than a millennium.
