For the December Art Journaling Challenge and this is my first digital art journaling layout here at Oscraps! Our journaling prompt is the word RECLAIM.
To create this layout, I started with a gorgeous aurora paper in purple, pink, and aqua blue. This is one of my favorite color combinations. I love the scattering of tiny white stars in the upper left of this paper and that the aurora is reflected in the wet sand on the beach.
Next, I created the title "reclaim space" using two alphas from the Winter Solstice {Collection Bundle} by Mixed Media by Erin. I gave the word reclaim a drop shadow, but for space, I created my own shadow so I could put the shadow a bit farther away to make it seem closer to the viewer in depth.
Then I selected the snow queen transfer and I put a splash of white gesso behind her, to kind of ground her to the page. I decided to sprinkle some silver stars down from the heavens toward her and framed her a bit with a sparkly navy ribbon.
Underneath her, I put some word art that says, "I release what no longer serves me, making space for growth and transformation," made to look like hot foil on vellum. Then I added my own journaling, "I am in the process of reclaiming my space, physically, emotionally, and mentally. I am creating the kind of space that will support and nurture me now and in the future." Next, I added the clouds, wolf, and bunny rabbit.
At this point, I noticed that paper #11 in the main kit is half bokeh lights and half snowflakes. I thought it would make a great overlay for the aurora background paper. I placed paper #11 over top of it, flipped paper #11 horizontally, and then used a gradient mask to blend more of it on the right than the left. Then I used the overlay blend mode so that it added bokeh lights to the right and a few faint snowflake details over the snow queen's head. Finally, there are some great mixed media papers in this collection, so I decided to use one of them as a matte for the layout.
