Pompeii (Pompeii in Latin, Pompeii in Italian) is a city of Roman Empire, situated in Campania. Based(established) in life century BC, she(it) is destroyed at the same time as Herculanum, Oplontis and Stabies, during the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 AD Buried under several meters of volcanic sediments, protected from the bad weather and the plunders, the city falls into oblivion during fifteen centuries. Rediscovered by chance in the xviie century, the state of preservation of the former(old) Roman city(estate) is remarkable: the searches(excavations) begun(undertaken) from the xviiie century will allow to dig up a prosperous city, an invaluable testimony of the town planning and the civilization of Ancient Rome. The archeological site is classified in the UNESCO world heritage since 1997, with Herculanum and Torre Annunziata.
