Papal Audience

My friend Kate and I were lucky enough to spend a few days in Rome last week and even more fortunate to attend a Papal Audience.

Journalling reads:
We had an early start in the chilly morning so as to join the queue in good time to get a good place in St Peters Square for the Papal Audience. We joined the group already queuing at about 6.15 am to go through the strict security checks. Everybody around us was keen to get a good vantage point and when the gate finally opened just before eight there was a great flurry of activity as everyone literally ran to the seating enclosure. Kate found us a good place next to the barrier near the end of the last row.
More and more people began to arrive and the available seats gradually filled up. It was a beautiful morning and we had to admit that it was a relief when the sun finally reached our part of the square! Finally, at about 9.30, a bishop started to welcome some of the various language groups present. He had just reached German, when people jumped up on the chairs - the Pope had arrived!! He drove around in his pope mobile and to our delight he passed by our spot twice and on the second run he stopped to bless some children so we had some great photo opportunities.
