Journaling

We left Scarsdale, New York, at 0:800 on the 12th of November. The plan was to drive to Santa Rosa, California to Moms parents where we would stay while Dad went on to Alaska. We would join him after John was born and Dad had secured housing.

By the time we made it halfway across the country Mom was having a difficult time riding in the car. She was 8 months pregnant and exhausted. Another 2200 miles in a car was just too much. A decision was made that Mom and I would fly from Chicago to San Francisco while Dad continued driving. Mom and I stayed with her sister Betty in Beloit and on the 17th of November we flew to San Francisco on United Airlines Flight 723 in a DC-7.

I still have my Junior Stewardess Wings complete with the signature of the President of United Airlines. The flight was non-stop. Our scheduled departure time from Chicago Midway was 15:00 local time our scheduled arrival in San Francisco was 19:50 local time. Total flight time six hours and fifty minutes. The total cost for the flight would have been $172.13 providing there was no military discount. Mom and Dad were reimbursed $174.96 for Mom's and my travel from South Dakota to Santa Rosa, California.

Dad picked us up and we went to Moms parents in Santa Rosa.
