One of the advantages of doing digital pages over traditional scrapbooking is I can include scans of original documents. The challenge is adding an artsy touch.
Journaling:
Shortly after arriving at Ellsworth AFB Dad received an updated Security Clearance Notification. He was granted a Crypto clearance.
Growing up I remember Dad saying, Just remember Top Secret is not the highest clearance.
With his transfer to Ellsworth, it appears he was not granted his request for crew duty on an airplane. This may have been why he applied to the USAF Security Service (USAFSS).
On this application, he listed his hobbies as fishing and reading. Based on my age on the application was submitted in June or July 1957.
USAFSS was a secretive and tight-knit branch of the Air Force. They were tasked with monitoring, collecting, and interpreting military voice and electronic signals.
This application would be a turning point in Dads career.
