The National Gardens opened in 1949 originally, they were part of the Imperial Palace grounds.
Just under a half square mile the Imperial Palace is the usual residence of the Emperor of Japan. It was built on the original site of Edo Castle. The mote surrounding the grounds are from the time of the Edo Castle.
Nishinomaru-mon is the main gate to the Imperial Palace.
Known around the world as the Nijubashi Bridge. Nijubashi literally translates to Double Bridge. When you are viewing the bridge from the front it looks like two bridges on top of one another. The foreground bridge is actually Stone Bridge of the Main Gate, and the background bridge is called Steel Bridge of the Main Gate.
