The Kennedy Assassination and moving day
Credits list
Journaling:

It was Friday the 22nd of November 1963 and it was moving day. Movers came in the morning to move us from the apartment to a house. The house was located at 1234 Westmoreland Drive in Falls Church. Just before we left in 1965 the address would change to 6936 Westmoreland Drive. Dad was working that day. John & I were at school, John in kindergarten and me in the first grade. Mom was left with Paul & Joan to handle the move. The skies were fair to mostly cloudy throughout the day. The temperature was around 50° in the morning rising to almost 70° by the afternoon. The humidity in the morning was almost 90% dropping in the afternoon to 53%.

The move was underway by 11:30 am local time when President Kennedy was assassinated. Mom does not remember exactly when she heard the news. She does remember watching it on the news that evening. I remember a Nun at the school crying going from room to room to inform the students and other the Nuns of the assassination. I also remember televisions being wheeled into the classrooms to watch the funeral live. I do not remember what night I had the only nightmare I can remember from my childhood, but it was right after President Kennedy was assassinated. In my nightmare, Mom and Dad were coming to pick me up at church and they were killed in a car accident. I can still see that dream almost as vivid today as it was back in 1963.

The apartment had two bathrooms and was 1037 square feet. The house was larger at 1090 square feet, but it only had 1 bathroom. What I remember most about the house was the strawberry patch in the backyard. You could sit in the middle of it and eat the best strawberries ever.

incredible memories, wonderful story-telling! I have similar memories, also in first grade, also heard the news from a nun; I should probably write that story before I forget it.

In later years it occurred to me that it was very rare to see a nun express any kind of grief. I think most of the students knew that intuitively making an impact on the situation that was far deeper than we realized.
