There are three Chapels at Elmendorf AFB. They were known as Chapel’s I, II, and III. Today they have names. Arctic Warrior, Heritage, and Midnight Sun. I have labeled the Chapel’s as they were labeled on Mom’s slides. However, the JBER (Joint Base Elmendorf ―Richardson) website contains contradictory information. The site claims that Chapel III was “formerly Chapel One.” It should be noted that a map from the time period supports Mom’s slides.
Cardinal Francis Spellman was the Archbishop of New York and the military vicar of the US armed forces. During December Cardinal Spellman would conduct an Annual trip to visit the troops stationed around the world. Receptions were held where the Cardinal would shake hands and greet each soldier asking that they give him their name and hometown.
