My journaling reads:
As I walked through town yesterday morning, I came face-to-face with this group of Morris Men; a uniquely eccentric tradition here in Britain, that is still practiced at certain times of the year. The tradition of Morris dancing in Abingdon is incredible old and there are even parish records dating back to 1560, that detail the purchase of "two dossin of Morres belles". The yellow and green colours of the bands worn by the men, represent the growing and the fully ripe corn fields that were so important to the agricultural heritage of the town. Morris dancing survives as part of a unique group of interrelated customs involving the Ock Street Horns, the Election of the Mayor of Ock Street, and the Mayor's regalia. On the Saturday nearest the 19th of June, the people who live or work on Ock Street exercise their right to freely elect their own Mayor and it was this celebration that I stumbled upon yesterday!

I must give credit to the Abingdon Traditional Morris Side website for providing me with some important info about the traditions of the Morris Men that formed the basis of my journaling!

What an interesting tradition to scrap! So fun to read. And I love the ribbons on the side of the page! I may have to steal that idea!

It's certainly an eccentric hobby that's for sure! The last Morris dancers I saw were in New York's Central Park - that was weird!
Love the balance of your page and the pops of red drawing your eye diagonally across the page! :)

Sue... what a great page!! I love that some places are steeped in tradition!! How fabulous that these men carry on the tradition of the Morris Men!! How wonderful that you scrapped it for us to enjoy also! Love the ribbons on the edges of the page!!

this is so cool! thanks for sharing the info! love the men dancing across the top of the page!

Fabulous page. At first i thought it was only one picture: great composition and placement of the three pictures ;D

Love the spots of red across the page.

Love this, as soon as I saw your page/title I knew I had to lift it and scrap my own Morris Men! Thanks for inspiring me!
