The mission of the Family Services Program is to inform all personnel and their dependents of the benefits to which they are entitled., the services and facilities that are available to them, and to provide assistance in times of hardship.
The Family Services center would monitor the sponsorship of new arrivals. At the time application for concurrent travel is approved, a sponsor is appointed. Along with a letter a copy of Top Cover, Elmendorf’s base directory was sent to the new arrivals.
There were several committees of volunteers within the program/ The Welcoming Committee who would greet new arrivals and take them to the appropriate quarters. The Personal Services Committee helped with providing transportation and babysitting for dependents. The Emergency Services Committee of which Mom was a part provided aid in emergency services for example shopping.
The center also maintained a lending cupboard which all newcomers to Elmendorf could borrow various household supplies including kitchen and eating equipment until hold baggage arrives.
