This Moment of Mercy sculpture pays homage to the soldiers in blue and soldiers in gray during the American Civil War, whose spirit of aiding those in need, no matter what side they were fighting on. A Confederate soldier crossed the battlefield amidst all the fighting and gave water to those who were wounded and dying. The Union soldiers realized what he was doing and held their fire. For ninety minutes, the battlefied was silent; both sides observed a solemn truce.
