The November 2025 challenge from A Whimsical Adventure is about transition. We were asked to create a layout about how we interpret transition — in our life, our surroundings, through our art -- it could be anything.
My journaling: "I am transitioning... from a fierce Warrior Woman into a relaxed Wise Woman. I no longer have to get up and go fight dragons and do battle. I like this slower pace. I'm enjoying being able to breathe. I love the peace and harmony that my husband and I create together. Instead, now I get to follow my heart. I've done everything that I wanted to do... And now it's time to dream new dreams. What's possible NOW? What do I want the rest of my life... To look like? Feel like? Be like? It's time to dream new dreams."
I created this layout using mainly Stargazer: The Complete Collection by A Whimsical Adventure, but I also used Cabinet of Dreams: Photo Masks, Mythical Characters No. 2: Hera, and Curiosities No. 3: Celestial Bodies also by A Whimsical Adventure.
I began with one of the images of Hera. I used a clipping mask to clip her to a photo mask from Cabinet of Dreams and then rotated her slightly so she was looking upward and into the future a bit more. Next, I played with the Gradient Papers to see which one I liked best as the background. I picked the one that goes from dark at the top to light in the middle to dark at the bottom, because the light band across the middle of the layout calls attention to Hera's face and eyes.
Next, I typed my journaling text, using the Special Elite typewriter font, and positioned it on the page. Then I used a clipping mask to clip a Solid Paper to one of the Photo Masks from Stargazer, and slid that underneath the text. Using the photo mask makes it look less like a solid paper and more like some watercolor paint that has been added. I also used a clipping mask to clip one of the Artsy Starmaps to a Stargazer Photo Mask and placed that in the upper left corner, behind Hera, for visual interest.
In the foreground, I added a spiraling Adornment in the lower right corner. To me, it looks a bit like the planetary orbits. Then I drew an ellipse around Hera's head, and selected a color from her hair to be the color for the ellipse. I placed various planets and moons from Curiosities No. 3: Celestial Bodies along the ellipse, as if they orbit her. I positioned one of them where the ellipse meets up with the Adornment. So, if you read the journaling, look at Hera's face, look up to the pink planet with a moon and around the ellipse counter-clockwise, you'll find this planet and jump off and around the spiral.
I placed two more celestial bodies in the upper right corner, some stars near the journaling, an 8-pointed star behind Hera's head, and a sun in the center of the spiral Adornment. Next I placed a star charm as Hera's earring, five four-pointed sparkles around Hera, the L'Astronomie vintage stamp, and portions of the quotes around Hera.
