LEST WE FORGET

I grew up in England not knowing much about war in
general. Both my Grandfathers were involved and in
fact my Great Uncle George died in WWI. My paternal
Grandfather was even awarded a medal and was sent a
telegram from the King of England!!! Both my parents
were born during WWII and told of the hardships they
faced as young children. I have lived through countless
wars even though I am still relatively young.
But none of these wars were anything like the old wars.
No one fought on my turf.
I never heard the sound of bombs or gunshot.
I never heard screams of fear and panic.
I never attended any kind of memorial service in England.
In fact I am ashamed to say the first one was in Australia
at the Wanneroo City service as George was a cub scout.

Today I attended an ANZAC memorial service at school.
Today George laid a wreath at the ceremony with Emily.
Today our children are made fully aware
of the hardships, the courage, commitment and strength
these men and women had/have. Today everyone can have
the chance to grieve. To thank. To respect. To honour.
Today our children will remember.
Today our children will never forget.
