Dear Social Q, Our office provides dishes for us to use in their effort to go green, however the kitchen is very small and it doesnt take much to dirty it up. Everyday several of my co-workers leave their dirty dishes in the sink waiting for someone else to wash them. Mind you the cleaning people do not clean our kitchen; they only take out the trash. I usually wash the dishes in the sink when I wash my dish but I am getting tired of playing mommy to a few non-caring people I feel treat our kitchen the way they do their own at home. Whats the politically correct way to try and get people to clean-up after themselves? I am all for the dishes but I dont want to keep washing the dirty dishes either just because I cant stand them being left in the sink. Thanks for your time and response. Sincerely, I am Not Your Mother in California.

Dear I am Not Your Mother, January 22, 2010 Your situation is like so many Administrators in Corporate America and I hear them say it all the time Your Mother Does Not Work Here, out of frustration. You can speak with your boss or office manager and ask if the company could provide a service to clean the dishes being left in the sink overnight because you are finding its taking valuable time from your work to wash the dishes being left in the sink. You could also send a friendly email to everyone in the office letting them know you have been washing the dirty dishes left in the sink for some time now and would like to suggest that everyone begin to wash their own dishes when they are done eating so you can continue to meet your obligations as an employee (and maybe they will feel bad about it and begin to wash the dishes they use). Hopefully this gives you a place to start or you can approach each of your co-workers in a loving way and ask them to please wash their dishes to help keep a pleasant working environment for everyone. Good luck with a clean kitchen in California! Social Q
