Journaling: This was our second visit to Copenhagen, a city we have loved since the first time I stepped out of a cab too quickly and almost got taken down by a bicyclist. We have since learned to move about more carefully. Our first stop on this visit was Kastellet Park, just outside of the city center. Its an impressive fortress shaped like a pentagon, built in 1626 to protect the port. Now, while it still houses the military, it is enjoyed as a quiet and peaceful park. The war memorial touched us deeply because it acknowledges international missions since 1948--Cyprus, Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. War is gruesomely persistent, and this monument reminded us that war exists in the present and is a risk in the future, not something relegated to the history books. The monument has three spaces defined by granite walls and built-in lighting. The first section bears the inscription En tid Et sted Et menneske, which translates into One moment One place One person. The second section has an eternal flame and lists currently deployed personnel and the zones of war, starting with Israel in 1948. The last space commemorates fallen Danish soldiers, the first dating back to 1956 and the last no less than a few months old. More names will undoubtedly come. It was comforting to run into a family of baby geese as we were leaving the park.

Trying to move ahead with the album documenting our travels in April/May before the holidays are upon us....templates are often my best friend at times like these. Design was easy, just popping things into frames and adding embellishmentit is the journaling that takes the time on these spreads for me. I was glad to have the Warm Glo #8 set, which worked well with the granite walls of the monument.
Such a wonderful layout to share your recent memories, and being touched by the memorial...they are very sobering, especially to realize the centuries war has spanned. Beautiful photography!

Love the balance of reds between the two pages! Beautiful photos. And love the detailed journaling (something I need to improve on).

beau partage de votre visite Copenhague, j'aime les coquelicots qui apportent des touches vives , belles photos et journaling trs intressant comme toujours Laura.
