Jack Kerouac Alley

Wikipedia: Jack Kerouac Alley, formerly Adler Alley or Adler Place, is a one-way alleyway in San Francisco, California, that connects Grant Avenue in Chinatown, and Columbus Avenue in North Beach. The alley is named after jack Kerouac, a Beat Generation writer who used to frequent the pub and bookstore adjacent to the alley.
The alley had commonly been used for garbage dumping and a shortcut for trucks before poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who is the co-founder of City Lights Bookstore, presented his idea in 1988 to the San Francisco Board of Supervisor to transform the alleyway. The project involved repaving the alley, making it a pedestrian walkway, and installing new street lights. The new look alley was reopened to the public in March 2007 and a ceremony was held in April 2007 to celebrate the reopening. The alley now known for its engraved Western and Chinese writing, including by such writers as John Steinbeck, Maya Angelou, Ferlinghetti, and Kerouac himself.

Notes: Starting with solid paper 1, rotating it, and bringing in solid paper 5 and positioning at the bottom of the page, I placed the San Francisco brush spanning across the page over these layers. I used the color of the darker paper, duplicated it and blended both layers of the brush to Linear Burn.

Bringing in all the photos and opening the ALT and using the framed masks, I positioned the photos and clipped them to the masks. I used the white framing and shadows on a couple of them. I also duplicated a couple of the photos and blended. I used one of the masks and clipped a paper and another San Francisco brush to it.

I pasted the journaling and added the title, then fleshed out the page with brushes, art strokes and the png frame from the kit. I drew out a rough border around one of the photos with a PS brush and added the little label. Then using the chevron brush, I knocked out the pattern on the darker paper with a layer mask. That finished the page.
This is really cool. Been by and through that alley many times, but didn't know the history :)

I have walked here many times. Interesting bit of history and great photos to go along with the story.
