In the Winter of your Life

My poor dad has been sick for quite some time and had to be moved to a nursing home 12 months ago.
Journalling reads:
The last 14 months have been a terrible time for you dad. You got sick and ended up in hospital and we nearly lost you, but you rallied and started getting better. The only problem was you were still not well enough to go home, and mum wasnt able to care for you any longer as you now needed special equipment and a lot more care than she was able to give. We found a wonderful facility for you that is near Gill and Terry and where you would receive very good care. This nursing home was also one of the few that offered daily activities, which we thought would be so important for you if you were to continue to make a good recovery.
It was heartbreaking when we came to see you and you would cry and ask to go home to mum. You couldnt understand how one minute you were living your life at home and the next minute you had been torn away from everything you knew and were residing in a new and strange place.
Gradually you got used to living at Centennial Lodge. You made many friends, joined in all the activities and became a favourite of the staff. You were well known for being cheerful and a real gentleman.
You have had a few setbacks, and we have nearly lost you a few times, but you have always bounced back.
Now though, you have been going downhill for a few months. You have lost weight, your memory is not good, you eat very little and you sleep most of the time. We know our time with you is short, but we try to make the most of the time we have and make every moment count.
