Historic Tampa Theatre

Music to My Ears Music to My Ears by Roseytoes Designs.
Journaling: This beautiful landmark, the Tampa Theatre, was built in 1926 as one of America's most elaborate movie palaces, The interior is a lavish and romantic Mediterranean courtyard replete with old world statuary, flowers, and gargoyles. Overhead is a nighttime sky with twinkling stars and floating clouds.
For several decades, the Tampa remained a jewel and the centerpiece of Tampa's cultural landscape. People grew up, stole their first kisses in the balcony, followed the weekly newsreels, and celebrated life week after week by coming back to the Tampa. By the 60s, with people moving to the suburbs, the downtown area started to decline. Tampa was fortunate that the Tampa escaped demolition, and was soon rescued as an important historical and cultural site.
Today, there are films, concerts, and other special events that take place at the Tampa. Youll
certainly want to hear the Mighty Wurlitzer, which was played for over 14 years by the talented Rosa Rio.And, if you are a tourist, be sure to take a tour. It is a fine example of an historic
preservation project.
