I thought this template would be perfect for these photos taken at an old Omi merchant's house in Gokashō in Shiga prefecture during the Hina Matsuri Doll Festival this year.
This month in Japan was all about Hina Matsuri which is a Shinto Festival. Hina dolls started to be displayed in the homes of wealthy people in the Edo period (17th to 18th century) to pray for the healthy growth and development of their children. Those who were not able to afford expensive dolls, made simple ones and hung them in the house to pray.
This particular display was in an old Omi merchant's residence which is now a museum.
