September 2024 Challenge #7- Quote It
Journaling - A turkey vulture has a face that only its mother could love and find beautiful. But- oh- when they take to the air, they are truly beautiful and magnificent in their flight. For me, they are even more appealing than the bald eagle in flight. They fly without any noticeable flapping of wings (unless they are coming in to land or taking off). Instead, they tilt their body from side to side and catch different thermals which allow them to glide lazily in large circles or change flight direction. I love watching them. When I glimpse one in the distance, I immediately feel the tension begin draining from my body and become so relaxed. It is disappointing when they glide away far into the distance and I can no longer observe them. Typically during the day, I will glimpse one, sometimes two vultures riding the thermals. Recently, in the early evening, large groups will fly overhead-most likely heading for the water tower. Whoa- mega relaxation moment! Unlike geese with their typically tidy V formation and clamoring honking of encouragement, the vultures seem rather disorganized in their grouping and are silent- silently gliding. Kind of makes me wish I was a turkey vulture-wait- change that thought - it makes me wish I could fly like a turkey vulture.
