Alice EIS 1890-1956 :This wife was, first,a dancer. But with only one film she became famous: The Vampire (drama). Kalem Studio, 1913, 43-min. Bert French and Alice Eis perform their notorious Vampire Dance in the prototypical vamp film. The vampire early on was configured as a sexual threat disruptive to marriage and the family. The term "vamp" as personified by Theda Bara began in 1915. Even earlier than Theda Bara's vamp, this rarely screened gem boasts a Vampire Dance by Alice Eis and Bert French, was recorded in this film for posterity. However, vampires had appeared, infrequently, on the screen. Alice Eis had followed in Theda Bara's mold with The Vampire in 1913, but nothing of note had been accomplished until 1922, when German director of genius, F.W. Murnau, produced Nosferatu.
