Straight up memory-keeping, about the roses my kids sent to me for Mother's Day.

The text reads: Did you hear a knock at the door? Eva texted on the Thursday before Mothers Day. No, I replied, why? Are you out there? (A joke, being that Eva lives in California.) I could feel the eyeroll across the miles. Of course, after that, like Santa springing to the rooftop, I headed for the door...to find...this extraordinary treasure...sent to me from all six of the kids, from Farmgirl Flowers in San Francisco. I noticed at once that the roses were still sheathed in their guard petals, which you dont see a lot in floral deliveries because those petals get brown and dry and make the roses look a lot less than perfect when the recipient opens the box. But strip them away and the freshness and beauty are revealed. That is why they are called guard petals. As I gently stripped the guard petals off my roses, I thought about my own guard petals, and those of my children and their partners and spouses. Dont we all shield those tender parts of ourselves? Our guard petals may not be visible to the eye, but they are there just the same. What a blessing to get beneath the surface.

Notes in Photoshop Elements 14

Sometimes I'lll spend a lot of time tricking out a template layout, and other times I really appreciate the simplicity of having all the work done for me. That was the case here, where I wanted a simple presentation to tell the story of my Mother's Day Flowers.

After placing my photos and tweaking their positioning, I added a white background and recolored all the stains to match colors in the photos. The journaling came next, and then a few simple embellishments. As a last touch I added the textured overlay on the right page of the spread, duplicated with Exclusion blending mode applied to the duplicate layer.
What an absolutely beautiful 2 page layout. What a wonderful surprise. Your photos really tell such a lovely story, and your journaling is so insightful!

Laura, I enjoy your writing...a wonderful mixture of humor, suspense, and introspection! A lovely gift and a lovely presentation with the new album pages!

Stunning spread! I've never heard of guard petals so I've just googled it - learn something every day lol! Fabulous journalling as always Laura!
