JOURNALING: Columbus Ohio has a vibrant restaurant scene. These are four of the places I discovered on my April 2017 trip to the "Heart of Ohio":
ASTERISK - our experience was a sheer delight at this one-year young suburban supper club. Although they have a full lunch and dinner menu, we chose to relax with the afternoon tea service. Choice of tea sandwiches, scones and mini desserts perfectly compliment the ample assortment of teas. EVERYTHING was scrumptious and the sandwiches appeared to be made to order. One caveat, this is NOT something you can cram into your lunch hour - it is designed to be a relaxing, proper "afternoon tea".
THURBER'S BAR - located inside an historic downtown hotel (now part of the Westin chain) this cozy homage to the famous Columbus humorist features prints of his art work on the walls. I had a delicious, filling roasted beet and pear salad complimented perfectly by a champagne vinaigrette. My sister was disappointed by the "Tuna Melt" - more accurately described as a tuna sandwich on toast.
BUN'S RESTAURANT - you can't miss this iconic family restaurant in downtown Delaware Ohio - there's a neon sign hanging over the street with an arrow pointing right to it! Once again, the "Tuna Melt" was more "sandwich" than "melt", but the tuna "salad" was very tasty. The blueberry cream cheese salad sounds a little odd, but the waitress said it was delicious - and she was right!!!
FLOWERS & BREAD - don't go here if you are hungry. The bakery-caf is small but delightful with a limited menu. The space includes areas where they teach bread baking and flower arranging, bearing testament to their belief that "simple pleasures are most meaningful when you participate in their creation". My "blooming" tea and individual "monkey bread" hit the spot. My sister enjoyed their "Tart Cherry Raisin Roll" with homemade butter.
