Golden Wheat

This is a companion page to a layout I created last April called Wash DayWashDay[/ul]

Journaling: My Mother used Duz laundry detergent because of the bonus dish that came in each box. Golden Wheat its called. In the 1960s she collected the whole wheat patterned set, including the glasses. One can only wonder how many loads of laundry she washed in her prized wringer washer to complete the set. With a smile on her face, she loved taking out the new dish from the box. From that set collected so long ago, one dish survives and I have it. It goes with nothing I have, but Ive used it, not even thinking about where it came from and how old it is. Lately though those memories came back to me every time I took the plate out of my kitchen cupboard. I think I will just put it on display, I wouldnt want anything to happen to it. I would love to find the whole set, I would buy it in a heartbeat and treasure it for the memories it brings back. But in the meantime, I will appreciate and love the one I have in my possession.

Process Notes: After I took a photo of the plate, I extracted it from the background. I opened a new document and moved the plate onto the 12 x12 page. Using solid paper 1 as the foundation, I duplicated the plate layer two more times and resized and positioned them.

On the left of the plates,I positioned the Duz photo I found on the internet under the three plates and used a reverse mask to bring back the parts I wanted. I duplicated it two more times putting the blend modes on Screen and Soft Light adjusting the opacity of each layer. On the right side I positioned the photo of the set of dishes and brushed away the harsh lines of the edges and blended the photo to Color Burn.

Underneath all these layers I placed the FotoBlendz and clipped artsy paper 4 to it. I added an artsy transfer and moved and resized the various parts over the page over and under the photos. I used several brushes from the palette, blending them.

Adding the title, I clipped the gold paint to it and changed the blending mode of the paint layers to Overlay. Then bringing in the journaling and notebook lines, I duplicated the plate photo three more times and positioned them at the bottom of the page. On the left side I added the word art, flowering branch and grass. That completed this page.
Fabulous page and story. I left comments at Jana's Junkies with a link to some of the dishes.

What a sweet memory and page to commemorate it. Love how the dishes are the main focal point.

Geez...this comes at the exact right time. I inherited my parents' good dishes and have been wanting to document them for my kids and had absolutely no idea how--so don't be surprised if you see me lift this page! The colors are perfect and I love how you ventured out of the typical chromatic range that one would expect to see with the colors on the dishware. Really satisfying to look at. Awesome brushwork/embellishment, too.

I'm envious that you got the Wheat pattern dish. My sister-in-law took my husband's mother's dishes and then sold them off in a yard sale (didn't know about it, otherwise I would have bought them). Beautiful page and love the opposing colors and journaling.

What a treasure you have!! What a beautiful page to keep this memory alive!! The colours are perfect, your journaling is wonderful and I know there will be lots of scrap lifts of this one!!

What a beautiful treasure! great page to keep this memory indeed! Very beautiful!

Fabulous story! What a treasure that dish is! It would be amazing to find the whole set, but one dish can carry the whole story along through time.
