Journaling:
When we were in the Netherlands in 2008, we visited the Rijksmuseum, where the Girl with the Pearl Earring was NOT. She isnt normally there anyway, her permanent house being the Mauritshuis in The Hague, but I guess everyone asks about this famous Vermeer, since there was a sign up in the gift shop with her picture, saying Shes not here. I was disappointed, as I would have loved to see her.
Then the signs began appearing in San Francisco. The Girl was coming to the deYoung Museum. Signs were all over the city, on the buses, lampposts, billboards. I had to see her!
It took awhile, but finally, on Mothers Day, May 12, 2013, we made plans to go and meet this famous Girl. And oh she was worth the wait! Just a beautiful and magnificent painting, incredibly restored considering it was painted in 1665, full of beautiful color and light!
Of course we couldnt take pictures, but there were plenty of posters and renditions, including a larger-than-life version on the front wall of the museum.
I so fell for this beautiful little girl that I went back the next week to see her one more time before the exhibit closed. And I bought a print which hangs in our
entryway, and a postcard that stands in my window, and a chocolate bar, just because her picture was on the wrapper.
