Journaling reads: We knew after riding at Bryce that we also wanted to explore Zions canyons on muleback. But when we tried to book online, there was no availability. Hoping that the outfitter ran a standby line, David and I ventured down to the corral after our hike to Emerald Pool...and were delighted to hear from Cowboy Bob that every single ride had open saddles. The glitch had something to do with their online system requiring reservations of at least a week prior, which we were not. We gratefully booked a trek for the next day. There were only four of us and Jess took us deep into the canyons to enjoy beautiful scenery, abundant plant life, and even a few mule deer. I loved the silvery sagebrush, which Jess called cowboy perfume. She said she wished there was a sagebrush candle, a request that I transmitted to Emma for her company, Cave Glow Candles. Later on, in Sedona, I would buy Emma a tiny vial of Utah sagebrush essential oil, so she could revel in the aroma and maybe design a special candle with it. We loved our mules, Barbara for me and HB for David, and felt cool that we were able to dismount and remount unassisted during our break halfway through the ride. A foot in the stirrup and a leg swung over, no mounting block necessary for us. --9/28/2017

I love templates. I altered this one by substituting a photo frame for a second text box and also added a second FotoBlendz (from another template in the set) to the left page so I could include an additional photo. The background is a solid white paper augmented with two Artsy Papers (Gelid and Opacus) blended into the background with blending brushes and layer masks to give both texture and the suggestion of sky. To finish up I recolored the stains and added the map and other brushes and a few embellishments. I also duplicated the rope and set it on color burn mode to make the color a better match to the mules' tack.
thanks for taking me along on the mule ride! loving those bright photos too.

Great photos. I especially love the one showing you from behind and the view. And a good story. Brings back a day I was standing up to my chest in sagebrush as far as the eye could see in Wyoming. The smell was so overwhelming I had to leave as soon as I collected some for smudge sticks and campfires. I would never have thought of making a candle, because smudge sticks are inexpensive, plentiful and effective. You can even buy them on Amazon.

Your photos and pages of your trip are so entertaining, I love them. I love how you stitched down the little stick. I still can't get over the gorgeous weather, but then September is one of the best months in the year.

great story and so colorful! yes that wonderful smell, when the sun heats it up and you brush it, would make a great candle. Barbara...ha ha!

Beautiful. Wonderful journaling. We've been exploring around Moab and Needles the last few years. The landscape is like something from a dream. Haven't been to Zion yet but might go there this year.

Love the smell of sage, also! Wonderful photos and journaling! Zion and the Grand Canyon next year for us!
