Journaling: Just east of Hof, the deserted farmstead at Ytri-Tunga hosts a colony of gray seals offshore of the coastline. We picked our way over the rocks to admire them eventually, but not before rooting ourselves into the view in the other direction, absorbing the power of the interaction of earth, sea, and sky. When we visit Iceland, these stark landscapes always seem so strange, but they also feel weirdly familiar. --Snfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland, 7/18/18

Photoshop Elements 14
I started with the background, wanting to capture the color and light that would remind us of our recent road trip around Iceland's Snfellsnes Peninsula. I don't often use Difference Blending Mode, but it came in handy here to get the blacks and blues that I wanted. My background is built up from a pile of layers from the Artplay Palette, starting from the bottom: Artsy Paper #1, overlay #2, silver paint, transfer #2, and Artsp Paper #2 (on difference blending mode). From there I added the UrbanThreadz FotoBlendz Frame for the landscape, then duplicated the Fotoblendz part of the frame for the seal photo. I added the word art, desaturating it so it would pop, and pulled in overlay #1 at the top, just for a little more white to contrast with all the dark. Multimedia Branch #4 provided an easy conclusion to this design. To finish, I duplicated the Fotoglo that comes with the branch and positioned it over a couple of places that I thought could do with more light.
I love seeing photography from Iceland. What a wonderful experience you had to stand there, and enjoy the wonderful view of sky, water, and earth. Beautiful page of your memories.

Your journaling moved me to take in your amazing photos and feel them! I especially liked the phrase...but they also feel weirdly familiar.

Love the layers of visual wonder to take in, and I'm drawn in by the blues and the dark background.
