Driving from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Reutte, after our stops at Ettal Monastery and Linderhof Castle, we passed seamlessly into Austria and along the beautiful Lake Plansee in Breitenwang. It reminded me of Lake Tahoe and other Sierra Lakes, with mostly steep treed hillsides, but a shallow and approachable section where the waters ranged from the deepest blue to a lovely Caribbean turquoise. It being a warm day, people were doing what people universally do at a lake - boating, swimming, splashing and beaching.
