Translation:
Eva is a female name, with the meaning (the hebrew word) chawa, which is the biblical mother, the giver of life. The Persian word is hava. The word isn't a name, it just means to give life, i.e. the womb of humanity. Chavah in Genesis 3:20 has been translated to Eva (lat. Eva and Heva, Eng. Eve). The versin in the 1917 [Swedish] translation says "And the man gace his wife the name Eva, since she was the mother of all living". The word Eva has since then been interpreted as a name of a woman.
In Christian mythology Eva is the first mother of humanity and is also a saint in the Catholic church. She's the patron of gardeners and others that nurse life, and for tailors.
The name is first know in Sweden in the year 1472.
