We went to San Luis Obispo, CA the first weekend in September with Jocelyn and Jake. One day, we went to Avila Beach, just 10 minutes away and had the most magical day. We walked out onto the pier and the ocean was filled with seals, sea lions and dolphin. The skies were alive with all kinds of birds including pelicans and sea gulls and they had steps leading below the pier, where the starfish were in abundance, every color and size. Jake got some frozen fish and he tried to feed one of the pelicans and some of the sea gulls with no success, then we started throwing them down into the ocean at the seals and sea lions. Its strange how slow they are. The pelicans beat them to the food every time. On the boardwalk a band played next to the restaurants and bars and they had a food court set up with all kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables, home-made flavored vinegars and such. It was a magical, festive day and that place will have a place in my heart always.
