After what seems like a long winter, I am waiting and wishing for spring. I know
that there will be mud and mess. There will be ice and puddles. Some days
will be nice and others will be cold. It is not that I don't like winter but
I am tired of winter. I am looking forward to the feel of dirt as I
prepare my garden. I am anticipating the feel of grass on my feet. Each
year I plant some flowers in the garden, sweet peas, nasturtiums, pansies.
I usually try to include some sunflowers as well. While I look
forward to spring and summer, I also remember. I remember the sunflowers that
grew in the lawn from seed spilled by the birds. Today as we watched
the waxwings, we noticed a purple finch. The water is running in
the street and we are reminded that each season comes in turn.
Each has its own beauty and its own problems. I don't want to
rush time, but now and then I like to reflect on the past and dream of the
future.
