Crossing The Mississippi ~ During Hurricane Laura

When we were moving out west in 2020, we knew there was a hurricane coming. Chuck was watching the weather, and we thought we were out ahead of it, but Laura changed courses and made landfall a couple of days earlier than expected. We literally drove through the hurricane. We couldn't stop, because we could barely see the road, so he just kept driving. He told me later that our SUV hydroplaned several times. I was trying to keep my mind busy by taking pictures. When we finally could stop, the hotels were full due to people from the southern states fleeing the storm. We got one of the last rooms in a hotel and in the middle of the night, were awakened to the most horrible sound of the fire alarms going off in every room. They told us to evacuate, and everybody was dragging out into the hallways. It was an open atrium, and we saw the fire fighters coming in with their hoses. Turns out it was a false alarm, but it was mighty frightening. This is a road trip that I'll never forget. I have never scrapped this event, so this collection prompted me to do it.

Oh my goodness!!!!! What an adventure!!!! Glad you all made it safe and sound. Fire alarms at hotels are scary since you have no idea what is going on. But after your scary drive I can only imagine the heart rate spike. You took some amazing photos!!!

Thanks, Tracy. It was pretty harrowing. The worst thing about the fire alarm was we had out dog with us and she was howling because the alarms hurt her ears so badly. It was certainly a trip to remember.

Oh, WOW... what a trip you had when moving and the hurricane hit mid-way into your journey. Great photos and journaling.
Thanks, Kay. It was certainly an unforgettable journey. Once again, I knew Chuck was in control so I knew we'd make it.
