Journaling reads: I didnt even know what an inukshuk was until you gave me a big soapstone one for my birthday. My very own marker on the land. Inukshuks became one of our 'things,' and its surprising where they have turned up in our travels. While not exactly inukshuks, these rock formations at the Cedar Breaks National Monument in Utah, where we stopped on our way to Zion, looked enough like markers on the land for us... and that they looked LIKE US made us smile. We also liked how they were gazing into Cedar Breaks crazy half-mile-deep geologic amphitheater. Elevation: 10,460 feet. The air was thin but we were warm.
(PS: An inukshuk is a stack of stones arranged to resemble a human figure, traditionally used by Inuit people as a landmark or sign.)

This design resulted from me being inspired by my digital supplies and veering off in a new direction. I've been documenting all the Red Rocks we saw in the Southwest and here were some more, but my photos for this place were the worstthere's no way I could capture the vastness of this geological magnificence with my cell phone, not to mention the subtle interplay of light and shadow. So when the supplies urged me to take a whimsical twist, off I went, selecting for a focal photo an image that showed a couple of rocks that reminded my husband and myself of...us.
Having picked a focal photo, the rest was easy and speedy, which is necessary because this album has a long way to go. The colors in this template matched my photos perfectly so all I had to do was pick out a background that I could easily blend into and that would work with the shape of the layers in the template. I blended with overlay blending mode and blending brushes. To develop a little texture, I also duplicated the photo and clipped it to one of the paint layers in the template. Using a different blend mode there allowed the photo to interact in an interesting way.
I added the Lock and Key multimedia element (and a pink string from a second multimedia element), and pirated one of its Fotoglos to duplicate and use in several places on the focal photo as accent points. The title, journaling, a few brushes...another page done for the travel album!
