Kachinas

In Photoshop Elements 14

Journaling: By the time we visited the Heard Museum in Phoenix, wed been searching for kachinas for about 10 days. Theyre expensive--and fragile--and we knew we couldnt possibly afford an authentic Hopi or Zuni doll nor could we display it appropriately at home. So we sought out Navajo kachinas instead. Unlike their Hopi and Zuni counterparts, which were crafted to teach about the ceremonial dances, Navajo kachinas are made exclusively for the tourist trade. They dont have the value or the spiritual importance of authentic dolls, but we do what we can do and our imaginations fill in the rest. The day before we found our kachinas--and we found two that we loved in an airport shop of all places, our eyes and souls feasted on the hundreds of authentic kachinas displayed at the Heard. Now when we look at our kachina dolls on our fireplace mantel, our memories whisk us right back to our Southwest road trip and remind us that there really is no need to let the perfect stand in the way of the good.
