Remember the Alamo

One of my favorite things to do in San Antonio is to visit the Alamo. It's interesting, historic and sacred all at the same time. Interesting fact: Phil Collins, the singer, donated his Alamo artifact collection to a new museum planned for the historic tourist attraction in San Antonio, Texas. The $100 million collection will house a number of rare items including a rifle (one of four remaining in existence) owned by soldier-frontiersman Davy Crockett, a fringed leather pouch carried by Crockett and an original Bowie knife which Jim Bowie had in his possession during the 1836 battle between Texas settlers and the Mexican Army. The Texas legislature declared Collins an "Honorary Texan."

We also had cocktails at the Menger Hotel, the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi. Three presidents stayed thereTheodore Roosevelt gathered his Rough Riders in the bar. Also rumored to have several ghosts. Photos from several websites.

Process notes:
I opened the template and began clipping my photos to the masks, enlarged them slightly. Framed each masked photo with a different frame for more interest. I decided to use the print-like photo as the background instead of using it for one of the smaller photos. I usually dont do this, but it seemed to add more of the vintage battle effect. And once I made the photos larger, it didnt seem to dominate the page. I duplicated the photo, using the blend mode of luminosity on the bottom layer, leaving the top layer set at normal. I used a reverse mask to add some spot color back in. Place the transfer from APP Sol at the top to simulate a sun. Added some stitches and accents to the frames. (I love the new ButtonThreadz! Created my title using the font Blockography. The quote was my final touch.

Thanks for looking!
