Great Adventure

Sophias Journaling: So starting out I was really tired. I never saw the sun go down for over 30 hours. We left SeaTac around 1 PM and got in Berlin around noon and started our day right then and there. I went 34 straight hours without sleep, except for a little nap on the plane....which wasn't very comfortable.

I was nervous to travel with the group because my German teacher (the head of the exchange) got cancer, so she couldn't go, which meant that one of her friends had to step in and fill in for her. Our 2 guides ended up being Ms. Molitor and Ms. Cabbage. They made an excellent duo. They were very kind to us, even when they became a little frustrated. Another reason why I was nervous is I didn't have any "close" friends in the group, however we quickly became each others best friends because we were with each other all the time.

It wasn't that hard to leave home. I missed my room, family, and friends, but I didn't really think about it that much because I was having so much fun.

Process Notes: I am creating this album for Sophia, using her words and photos. After all, its her adventure, not mine. She was in Europe 3 weeks ahead of the rest of the family as an exchange student, so her take is very different from the rest of the familys. Years from now I want her to look back on this album seeing and hearing herself as her 16 year old self visiting Europe for the first time.

I used the first page of the template as is, clipping the map I got from the internet to the fotoblendz and the two photos to the framed masks. I gave the map some depth with the tissue textures and paper textures. I showed Sophias destination with the arrow and scribble circle. I added another paper texture running down from the photo of the flight pattern and another tissue texture to right at the bottom. I brought in the Neige solid paper 1.

I slipped the transfer from Wanderlust under the fotoblendz and blended it to Hard Light, knocking out the color. I added the stains, passport stamp art stroke and drips to give it a bit of a messy look. I added another text box to accommodate Sophies journaling.

Adding the airplane and label, which I warped a little, I used the hard round brush to connect the two. Thats pretty much it for this first page.

As I go along creating this album, I might include FotoInspired template pages and design some pages with a single photo to round it out.
I can see this is going to be a very special album. Love the maps...the plane charm.

Love everything about this! There is so much unity, from the story to the elements. And that blue!

What an exciting beginning to this marvelous trip. In spite of some misgivings she seems to have quickly settled in with the other travelers.
Love your maps and inclusion of Sophie's journaling.

I love that you are using her words and photos - this album will be such a treasure for her! And I love seeing her journaling also - I know I could not go 34 hrs without sleep! love the plane and the wanderlust - fantastic!
