It's back to school time in Austin. One of my good friends is a first grade teacher in an underserved/underprivileged school. She asked me to help her out by coming in when I can and letting the kids read to me. Something that doesn't happen at home for many of these kids. This got me thinking about my favorite childhood books. I loved the Babar seriesI thought I was so smart because I could read cursive. Ha. Ha. When I help out, I'm sure I'll discover new favorites. Oh, I also designed some Dora/dinosaur bookmarks to give the kids. They turned out kinda cuteif anyone wants them, just DM me and I'll send the art.
What book was your childhood favorite?

Process notes:
I love Annas ArtsyKardz. I use them in a variety of different ways, sometimes as a background paper. For this layout, I used a 6 x 6 No. 1 AK Knowledge and enlarged it to 12 x 12. I turned off some of the layers, creating a colorful paper with a few notebook lines. I placed the journal from MultiMedia Read and added the chart of cursive writing, using the multiply blend mode to make it look like it was printed on the page. I then added the binder element and the Barbar book cover, masking out part of the clip. I placed my illustration behind the journal and reduced its opacity. Added the book stack transfer, glasses and book outline. Brushed in some color in the book outline along with a few more stains and splatters. Added the overlay that makes this look like old-time Polaroid. Final touch was my text.
