I gave my photo an artsy look with lots of filters from photoshop and Topaz Impression. I made it black and white and I gave it a lot of contrast.

I opened the template and dragged all the layers to a new document A4 size format. I resized it a little to fit this document.
I clipped a solid white paper to all the photomasks of the template. I placed my photolayer above all the layers.
I then started clipping brushes and transfers to all the layers, building up a composition and background for my layout. I stayed close to the original composition of the template. I placed a brush over the layout and gave it a color from the transfers.
I merged the layers and did some sharpening and Dodge and Burn work.
