Lady Liberty

Happy 4th of July. As I celebrate with a BBQ and fireworks, I like to remember the words inscribed on our most iconic statue. Both sets of my great grandparents were immigrants fleeing from unlivable situations in their home countyone a famine, the other a pogrom.

Lady Liberty's poem history, if you're interested:
American poet Emma Lazarus (18491887) wrote in 1883 to raise money for the construction of the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. In 1903, the poem was engraved on a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal's lower level.

Process notes:
I opened up the StripedPaper from the ArtPlay Palette Brimming and added two layered masks from HipsterPlume FotoBlendz No. 7 on the layer above it. I rotated the masks and merged them. I clipped my repurposed Lady Liberty art from last year, and then removed areas that I didnt like. I use several brushes from APP Brimming and Noble, brushing them over and behind the art to give it a grungy vibe. I converted the masked art to a smart object, applied a PhotoShop Poster Edge filter to give it a sharper look, then duplicated the photo four times using blend mode of color burn to add even more of grungy look. Added the text and brushed in a few stains to the stripes and was finished.

Thanks for looking!
Love your patriotic layout with the poem so nicely presented. A great reminder to all of us!
