This is so sad! Sorry for your loss!! He was abandoned, but is meet good people at last. This is the worst part of the process, when we realize that we are find them too late to can save it. For those of you who commented about Garbanzo, Garbanzo was a stray who was picked up in the streets this January emaciated and with bleeding paws from walking on salty/snowy streets. He was super sweet and loved everybody, trying to climb up on your lap the minute he would see you...but the shelter euthanized him just days later and so he never had a chance to give someone special all that love that he had to give.
