I had in mind a semi-grungy layout to capture my daughter's partner and their friend playing music in their fringed suede jackets on the rooftop of their apartment, so I started by layering my daughter's photo (enlarged to fill the whole canvas) over ArtsyPaper #3 on multiply mode. I liked the general look, but lost the fringe, so the trick became to restore the light that multiply mode sucked out of the photo. I achieved this with a few levels tweaks, but mostly with ArtsyTransfer#5, pulled into both the lower right corner and midway along the left side. The stone transfer component of that ArtsyTransfer on overlay mode was just the thing. I layer-masked away the bits I didn't need and not only was there light but I also now had some interesting squiggles, stains, spatters, and artstrokes that added to the grunge. I finished my layout by adding the title behind the boys, the journaling, the birds, and most of the layers of ArtsyTransfer #1, which I deconstructed and moved all over the place for color, light, and texture.
