Another famous old tea rose named for a Russian General by the French breeder of the rose, Gilbert Nabannond who lived on the Riviera. The Nabannonds named many of their roses after their customers and so happened the Russian nobility loved to winter on the Riveria and rented villas there. General Schablikine was one of the Imperial guard and would have escorted the nobles and perhaps even the Empress. After the General completed his military service he entered the civil service and helped found an Agriculture Academy, the Moscow Conservatory and the first Higher Courses for women in 1872. A man worthy of a beautiful rose.
