We got to Badwater plenty early and hiked out onto the salt flats before the moon set and the sun came up. It felt like there was mud under the salt, and sometimes dirty footprints showed our steps. Remember the "sea level" sign placed 282 feet above us on the rock face.
Badwater is 282 feet below sea level. And is extremely hot in summer, 100 degrees F at night.
