When the sun came up, we were in the Mohave National Preserve two hours south of Las Vegas. We drove by big cinder cones. We saw rabbits. jackrabbits, a six-foot snake sunning in the road, a vulture, and a hawk. Remember hiking on the ankle-twisting large lava rocks at the lava tube.
